Trips 2005

History Trip Normandy Beaches 5th Form trip
From La Cambe' German cemetery to the Pointe Du Hoc; 15 hours that we were on French soil we visited nearly every famous D-day site; from planes, to tanks, to ships we were inundated by the ever-knowledgeable Mr Booth. Maybe one of the most spectacular sites was the mulberry harbour; we were amazed by the efficiency of the Royal engineers who built a harbour the size of Dover in the space of two weeks.

Biology/Geography

Lower Sixth Biology/Geography field trip to the Czech Republic

From a field trip to soccer matchers.

  • Finding prehistoric pottery in Mikulov, where the bluebell woods  receive the LWC treatment as the students were asked to smell the soil.
  • A soccer match where Joe decided to jump the fence to retrieve the ball, fell and dislocated his shoulder, which meant a trip to hospital.
  • Friday the group headed home, but 20 minutes before our flight was due to take off it was announced that a bird had flown into an engine and so we would be delayed. We had not eaten since lunch so we 'sent out for a take away'. Twenty five pizzas and drinks duly arrived which were immediately passed though the X ray machine.

2nd-Form French Trip

Poem by By Lara Flanagan

The Memorial

We got out of the coach,
Cameras and all.
Ready to visit,
The great Memorial!

The gravestones nearby,
All so neatly in rows.
Telling good stories,
Of the World War heroes!

We listened intently,
To some of our schools' girls and boys,
Read aloud some words,
Of the Sampsons' choice!

We wandered around,
Seeing names on the wall,
Of fighters, pilots,
It showed us them all!

After twenty minutes or so,
It had to be done,
The teachers announced;
"To the bus, everyone!"

So we left on our journey,
With our brains so alive,
Thinking of soldiers' devotion,
yet, inability to survive!
