Junior House
Another hugely successful year for everyone involved in Junior House. N ot only did we welcome over fifty three new pupils to the junior community but also new colleagues. In September we welcomed a new tutor, Miss Beth Anderson and also Miss Allison Finkelstein from William and Mary University in Virginia, USA, Mr Mark Woods from Bournemouth University and hockey coach and national league player Gilly Adams.
Hazelveare House
As expected it was another busy year in Hazelveare. The Upper Sixth under the strong leadership of Mike Bates and Harry Phillips led from the front throughout the year. Quiz nights, Film nights, year group meals and the entertaining Christmas party were all organised meticulously. Ed Butler made the kitchen his own and set a Hazelveare first, not only to prepare the food, cook but also to do the washing up himself!!! Standards were certainly set. No one
will forget Mr. Badger and Dr Johnson head to head jousting on the pole during the Christmas party. Luckily Mr. Badger kept his sense of humour after only managing to stay on for a matter of seconds.
Gosden House
The beginning of this year started off a bit differently for Gosden, with the arrival of Mrs Ludlow. The house soon settled in to having a new houseparent, as well as two small children running around the house!! The interhouse events soon kicked off, starting with the interhouse basketball. Here Gosden started off well, securing 2nd place between Park and Haygate and a good few points for the Superleague.
Summerfield House
Summerfield House welcomed some 18 new 3rd formers into the House, a new 4th former and three L6th who soon found their feet and were quickly integrated. Also new were Mr. Et Mrs. Coetzer, next door in Summercroft with their two daughters, and Mr. Richardson, who came back after four years, rumour has it, 'House sick
Park House
2008-0 9 has been a very successful year for Park, topped o ff by an incredible Super teams win!
Hetty and Nel were great this year in getting everyone involved in house events, resulting in Park winning about a third of all events! Most notably, we won Superteams, Puddex and Volleyball and the whole house put their all into everything. A special m e ntion also goes to the 3rd form , as there are only 4 of them , so they were all required for nearly every house event, but they just got on with it and did Park proud!!
Sutton House
The year began fairly predictably with the month of September, which brought with it another shoal of 3rd formers into the fray.
3rd formers typically have a terrific ability to be irritating - and this year's did not disappoint in that department - but the little chaps also integrated with in weeks, joined in wherever they could and became true 'Suttoners', ready to progress through the ranks.
Haygate House
Haygate has enjoyed another great year and despite th e censors I'll attempt to tell you all about it! My form at of recent years has been to pick out something from each term that has gone down in Haygate legend. This year the first excitement occurred at the House Choir Competition. Haygate sang the Moulin Rouge number 'Lady Marmalade' (with , parents will be glad to read, a subtle change of wording in the chorus). Thanks go to Georgie and Bethan for organizing the event although the costumes weren't necessarily to everyone's liking!
School House
So here it is:
It was in the spring of 2008 that a Sc'Ouse showcase was first mooted as a means of raising significant money for charity as well as displaying some of the talent in the House. Detail about this event is given elsewhere but from my perspective, it was a wonderful event, made more wonderful by the fact that the organisation was almost all down to the boys. It genuinely was an event in which the whole House and staff worked to gether on a collective project.
