Toby East (2010) Wrote in The Sternian of his adventure through India to raise money for the Devon Air Amblulance
2500km is a long way to drive in a car let alone in a tuk tuk on the terrifying roads in India. This danger was reinforced when watching a rerun of the India Top Gear special, whereby Jeremy Clarkson informed us that: 'One person dies every' 4 minutes on the roads in India ’ - don't worry Mum it will be fine. The programme also showed us that there are not really any rules on the Indian roads from no lights at night, to changing a tyre in the middle of a motorway to six people and the family dog on a moped.
‘3000km, 150 cups of chai, 1000s of selfies with locals, monsoons to 35c desert heat,100s of curries, somehow no Delhi belly, numerous break downs, a few kingfisher beers and the three wheeled Queen Elizabeth Rickshaw. I had made it to its destination of Bangalore after a change in finish due to the horrific floods that devastated Kerala. What an experience that was: we met some amazing and wonderful people, drove through some spectacular scenery, witnessed some of the worst poverty in the world and raised £2000 for Devon Air Ambulance. A trip of a lifetime that will live long in our memories’
